Montreal School of Gemology - cours-atelier

Gemmology 2

This course is designed to introduce students to the instruments and testing methods used by gemmologists to identify gems.

Building on the information learned in Gemmology 1 students continue to learn about and observe new gem materials while developing a notion of gem testing techniques and practices.

Gemmology 2 teaches students to how to use gemmological instruments such as the microscope, polariscope, refractometer, and spectroscope that help identify gems based on their physical and optical properties.  Students learn gem testing techniques and how to interpret their results to accurately identify gem materials.

By the end of this course students will be able to follow a logical progression of observation and testing to identify any gem they are presented with.
